Mountain / Igloo / 🦈 Shark Attack (Coach Odom Exact)
Mountain: Create a giant “mountain” by stepping in and lowering the parachute.
Hot Air Balloon: March forward then backward in coordinated steps while holding the chute high.
Igloo: Pull parachute over heads and sit inside. Rock for Jello or march for Merry Go Round.
Shark Attack: Sit on pockets, leg waves. 4 sharks start. Pulled kids become sharks. 4 lifeguards rescue. Reset when too many sharks or time is up.
Coach Odom’s Exact Commands – Mountain: 1 Ready → 2 Up Up → 3 Step Step → 4 Knees on edge of Parachute → 5 Hands on Ground next to knees.
Hot Air Balloon: 1 Ready → 2 Up Up → 3 Step Step Step → 4 Backwards Step Step Step.
Igloo: 1 Ready → 2 Up Up → 3 Step Step → 4 Pull over head & sit inside.
Character Focus: Listening and precision. These games only work when every single student follows the exact count and stays with the group.
5E for Mountain/Igloo/Shark:
- 🔥 Engage: “We are going to build the tallest mountain in the gym — but only if we all move as one!”
- 🔍 Explore: Practice the 5-count Mountain step-by-step on pockets first, then progress. Same for Igloo/Shark.
- 📖 Explain: Exact counts and body positions. Why precision matters (mountain collapses if anyone is off). NASCAR color switches only after Mountain is solid. For Shark: “The game isn’t fun if everyone is tagged so it is your job as an ‘unfrozen’ player to help your ‘frozen’ teammates.”
- 🚀 Elaborate: Full Mountain + NASCAR (outside first, then under for older). Igloo rock/march. Shark with lifeguards. Student leaders call counts in higher grades.
- ✅ Evaluate: Every student on the count, safe stepping, controlled lowering. “Did the mountain stay tall because we were together?” For Shark: Observe helping behavior.
