Parachute Waves / Lifts

K-5
🔥🔥🔥🔥 Equipment: Parachute or bedsheet Time: 10-15 min
Hold edges and make waves, lifts, or keep a ball rolling on top. Builds teamwork, upper-body strength, spatial awareness.
TEKS Alignment: K.2A (cooperation in activities), K.1B (non-locomotor bending/lifting)
Character Focus: Teamwork and kindness — helping each other succeed in God's community.
Cross-Curricular: Science (motion/force)
📺 Watch: Parachute Waves PE Demo

Comprehensive Modifications/Adaptations for ALL Grades:

K: Seated circle or small sheet, slower waves, buddy grip, visual cues, 8-10 min (STEP: Wheelchair circle for mobility, large sheet for visual, hand signals for hearing, simple one-step for cognitive, soft sheet for sensory, short turns for fatigue, inclusive pairs)
1st: Add lifts, 10-12 min (STEP: Adaptive grips, verbal/visual cues, buddy support)
2nd: Ball rolling, 12-14 min (STEP: Seated options, color-coded edges)
3rd: Group timing, 14-16 min (STEP: Modified lifts, team roles)
4th: Competitive waves, 16-18 min (STEP: Adjustable height, time extensions)
5th: Advanced variants, 18-20 min (STEP: Inclusive teams, sensory adaptations)

5E Lesson Plan Structure:

  • 🔥 Engage: Hook activity - Quick warm-up demonstration of game concept, show excitement for the activity (demo simple wave with sounds).
  • 🔍 Explore: Hands-on discovery - Students try basic waves/lifts, explore rules through guided practice.
  • 📖 Explain: Teach concepts - Demonstrate proper form, explain rules, TEKS connections, character focus on teamwork.
  • 🚀 Elaborate: Apply/extend - Full game play with variations, leadership roles, cross-curricular connections (science motion).
  • ✅ Evaluate: Assess learning - Check understanding of skills, character development, TEKS mastery (observe cooperation).
