Students "orbit" around the gym visiting planet stations. At each planet, they complete physical challenges while learning facts about that planet's characteristics, distance from sun, and unique features.
PE TEKS: K-4.1A (Locomotor movement), K-4.2C (Body awareness in space)
SCIENCE TEKS: K.8C (Sun, moon, stars), 1.8B (Natural objects in sky), 2.8C (Patterns in sky), 3.8C (Planets and sun), 4.8C (Earth's place in solar system)
Character Focus: Wonder and curiosity about our universe develops respect for scientific learning. Students practice patience as they learn complex concepts through active exploration.

5E Lesson Plan Structure:

  • 🔥 Engage: Hook activity - Quick warm-up demonstration of planet movements, show excitement for space exploration through movement.
  • 🔍 Explore: Hands-on discovery - Students try different planet movements and orbital patterns, explore rules through guided practice.
  • 📖 Explain: Teach concepts - Demonstrate proper form, explain science concepts and movement rules, TEKS connections, character focus on curiosity and exploration.
  • 🚀 Elaborate: Apply/extend - Full solar system dance with all planets, leadership roles as planets, cross-curricular science on space facts.
  • ✅ Evaluate: Assess learning - Check understanding of space science and movement coordination, character development on wonder, TEKS mastery in both subjects.
K: 4 planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars), walking pace, simple planet colors and sizes, basic movements at each station
1st: All 8 planets, jogging pace, basic facts (hot/cold, big/small), planet-themed movements (jump like low gravity)
2nd: Planet order and characteristics, running pace, distance comparisons, more complex physical challenges
3rd: Moons, asteroid belt, space exploration facts, varied locomotor skills, research integration
4th: Gravity concepts, space missions, advanced space science, leadership roles in teaching others
